Get in my belly!

Oh nelly, we've started feeding the little man something other than breast milk. I feel like we've been given some grief for waiting until 6 months, but this child has not suffered one bit! So far we have ended up with more rice cereal on the bib than in the belly. Alas, the spoon provides a good distraction as the little man likes to assist. We will attempt oatmeal this evening and see if we can swallow a wee bit more!

And for the big kids in our house, we have the perfect avocado. Which apparently is a great first food also - but Mr. O will need to learn to swallow first. I'm not wasting a perfectly good avocado on a bib...

Isn't that gorgeous? This is a PERFECT non-store-bought avocado off of my auntie's tree. I have repeatedly told the J Man that when we move to Cali (note "when" - hopeful, ever hopeful) I would like to plant the following trees: avocado (2 for cross pollination), lemon tree, lime tree and grapefruit tree. Until then I will be pacified by my auntie's fruit. Whenever we are in Cali I beg and plead for avos off her tree and we were not disappointed!

We have a slight addiction to guac in our household. And what goes better with guac than tacos? So we brought taco night back until the avocados ran out :( I am not a purist when it comes to my guac, and I've never had any complaints on how I make it. So here are the list of ingredients, add to taste!

2 avocados
1-2 cloves garlic
1/2 lemon or whole lime (the juice to prevent the guac from turning brown and adds a tangy flave)
Lawry's season salt
Cumin
splash of Tobasco (I have eliminated this step lately as it can turn it a bit sour)
Pace Thick and Chunky - I know some people like to add fresh tomatoes or pico, but I like the additional flava flav that the Pace adds)
Sour cream (again, I don't add this all the time as it sometimes doesn't need it)
a handful of fresh cilantro
Mission Tortilla strips (I prefer Mission to any other tortilla chip - always have, always will!)

I think we will have tacos once I find some decent avos - a challenge here in the dead of winter!

David will appreciate this post. He loved your guac. Is spring ever going to arrive??

How'd the oatmeal go? All of mine liked oatmeal and mixed-grains soooo much better than rice - and who could blame them!

Sam

P.S. You don't have to go thru all the cereals before you introduce other stuff - share some of that avocado!
